P.G. Lark creates high-concept young adult science fiction where big scientific ideas collide with mystery, humour and the occasional existential crisis. He first imagined what would become the Noah Vale universe while sitting on a bus in Auckland in 1998. It then took twenty-seven years, multiple abandoned drafts and what can only be described as stubbornness at a molecular level before he finally typed ‘The End’.

He grew up in Sussex and Hertfordshire and later read pure mathematics at the University of Warwick, which was either excellent preparation for writing about living chemical elements or a very roundabout way of doing so. In the late twentieth century he emigrated to New Zealand, where he spent twenty-one years, eight months and twenty-four days working in telecommunications strategy, marketing and research, while quietly ignoring the increasingly persistent voice in his head saying, ‘Finish the book.’

In 2018, redundancy intervened. His soul agreed. He returned to the UK in 2022 to write full-time. The best advice he has ever received is to ‘write what you know.’ His series therefore follows teenagers who discover they are living chemical elements and are immediately swept into impossible physics, an intergalactic pizza empire and a bitter cosmic divorce between Mother Nature and Dark Matter.

The Noah Vale Mysteries combine fast-paced adventure with real science, found-family chaos and a lingering suspicion that the universe may be slightly broken.

Research is ongoing.
